FAQs

All of our area rugs have been designed to be custom sized. Our team of skilled craftspeople will finish your area rug to your unique size specifications. Should you choose to add a rug pad to your order, that will also be cut to the exact right size for your rug.

Typically, it takes 2-4 weeks from order placement to delivery. It's important to note that the 2-week delivery timeline applies specifically to parcel eligible rugs. Parcel eligibility is based on rug size and weight. Not all products are eligible for delivery via parcel.

At Ernesta, we prioritize quality products that will last in your home. This reduces the need to dispose of and rebuy rugs frequently (typical of many mass produced, synthetic rugs being sold online). Most of our area rugs are made from natural, renewable materials - like wool, sisal, jute and seagrass that have a low carbon footprint. They are not treated with any coatings or chemicals. Many of our synthetic rugs and rug pads are made in part from recycled materials. If you have any questions on a specific style, you can reach out to one of our design assistants.

At Ernesta, we take great pride in crafting just-the-right rugs for you. For this reason, we only offer refunds for orders canceled within 24 hours after purchase. After this 24-hour period, we cannot provide refunds or exchanges, except for scenarios covered under our Limited Warranty. To help ensure you love your Ernesta rug, we encourage you to purchase samples, consider each style carefully and review our Materials Guide and Sizing Guide. Additionally, our design assistants are available to provide personalized support and guidance. If you need assistance with your selection, please get in touch at design@ernesta.com. We're committed to delivering the highest quality Ernesta products, and in the rare case of a manufacturing defect, sizing issue, or incorrect order, we'll honor the Ernesta Promise and provide a satisfactory resolution.

Rug quality is largely determined by what the rug is made of and how it is made. As a general rule of thumb, the more natural the material (silk, wool, plant grasses) the higher the quality. Similarly, the more handmade the rug construction, the higher the quality - look for words like hand-knot, hand-loomed, hand-woven and hand-tufted. In some instances, the use case will determine what sorts of rugs (material and construction) will be ideal (e.g., an outdoor rug should always be a synthetic and are most often machine made). There are endless combinations of material and make in the world of rugs that can be difficult to navigate. Our team of design assistants are here to help you navigate which rug qualities are right for your specific room requirements.

Your rooms are not standard sizes, so why should your rugs be? Much like with a custom suit or tailored pant, getting the exact right fit with a rug makes all the difference. The most common rug decorating mistake we see is the “too small rug” problem. Even the highest quality product can look dinky when sized incorrectly for your space. This is all too easy to do with standard sizes, especially as open floor plans necessitate larger furniture placement in bigger rooms. It can be difficult to get the right fit with widely available sizes. When the rug works with all of your furniture and the nuances of your room (e.g., 6 inches shorter than a standard 8x10 to not hit the radiator, or 12 inches longer to get the back legs of the dining chair on the rug), the space looks tailored, cohesive and professionally designed.

With the right care and maintenance, our rugs could last for decades. It really depends on what they are up against lifestyle wise and if it’s the right material and construction for the space. For instance, a white wool rug could last for decades in a bedroom with low foot traffic, but could also show wear quickly if placed in a muddy entry way. For that reason, we cannot make any claims about exact amounts of time a product will “last” for. For help selecting the right product for your space and lifestyle, please reach out to one of our design assistants.

Our design assistants are happy to virtually guide you through measuring your space to help find the perfect fit. You can also refer to our expert-crafted Sizing Guide for step-by-step advice as well as tips and tricks for measuring your space.
